Perplexity has launched a new service called Sonar, allowing businesses and developers to use its AI search tools in their own apps. Sonar provides real-time answers by searching the internet and pulling information from trusted sources.
Companies like Zoom are already using Sonar to power AI assistants that give real-time answers during video calls without needing to leave the chat. Developers can also customize where Sonar gets its information.
Two versions of Sonar are available: a basic version that’s cheaper and faster and a Pro version that handles more complex questions with detailed answers and extra citations. Prices vary depending on how much the tool is used, but Perplexity says its service is more affordable than similar tools.
This launch gives Perplexity a new way to grow its business. The company currently earns $5–$10 million annually and recently raised $73.6 million, valuing it at $520 million.
