OpenAI is making it easier for users to customize their experience with ChatGPT, the AI-powered chatbot. On Friday, the company introduced a new design for ChatGPT’s custom instructions menu, allowing users to change the chatbot's personality and behavior.

The new features will first be available on ChatGPT’s website and the Windows desktop app, with plans to add them to mobile and MacOS apps in the coming weeks. However, users in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Switzerland won't get the update right away.
With the updated menu, users can now tell ChatGPT things like their name, profession, and any other details they'd like the chatbot to know. Users can also choose traits for the chatbot, such as being "Chatty," "Encouraging," or "Gen Z."
This feature is separate from ChatGPT’s memory function, which allows users to ask the chatbot to remember or forget specific information.
The update mainly improves the look and ease of use of the custom instructions, although it still relies on the same system of giving ChatGPT instructions to adjust its tone and style. OpenAI also checks the custom instructions to ensure they follow its rules.
As ChatGPT’s user base grows, OpenAI has continued to add new features, like live web searches and a special interface for writing and coding. The company recently announced that over 300 million people use ChatGPT every week.
