ChatGPT Launches Tasks for Reminders and Recurring Requests

OpenAI has introduced a new feature called "Tasks" in its ChatGPT app, allowing paying users to set reminders and recurring requests. This beta feature is now rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users worldwide.

With Tasks, users can ask ChatGPT to send reminders, like notifying them about a passport expiry in six months, or create recurring requests, such as a daily news update at 7 a.m. or a weekend plan every Friday based on the weather. Notifications will appear on platforms where Tasks are enabled.

The feature is accessed through the "4o with scheduled tasks" option in the app, and tasks can be managed via chat or a dedicated tab in the web app.

While Tasks enables scheduled web browsing, it doesn’t allow continuous monitoring or online purchases. For instance, ChatGPT can check monthly for concert tickets but won’t alert users the moment tickets go live or are purchased.

OpenAI plans to expand the feature to mobile apps and free-tier users after learning from the beta launch. However, Advanced Voice Mode support is not yet available.

This launch marks OpenAI’s move toward AI agents capable of acting independently. CEO Sam Altman has hinted at more advanced systems like “Operator,” which are expected to handle tasks like coding and travel bookings in the near future.

As OpenAI develops more powerful tools, safety and reliability will be key priorities, ensuring users can depend on AI for everyday tasks while minimizing risks.
