As a Technical Writer specializing in Cloud Networking at Google, you will play a critical role in creating and maintaining high-quality documentation for Google Cloud’s networking products and services. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and other technical teams to produce accurate and clear content that helps developers and technical audiences understand complex cloud networking concepts, solutions, and tools. Your work will empower customers to navigate the Google Cloud ecosystem effectively and will support Google's mission to accelerate every organization's digital transformation.
Responsibilities
- Create Technical Content. Design, organize, and author in-depth documentation for Cloud Networking services, focusing on use cases, concepts, and network architecture.
- Collaborate with Cross-functional Teams. Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information, prioritize content needs, and ensure accurate representation of technical concepts.
- Develop and Maintain Documentation. Manage and maintain various types of content including conceptual overviews, procedure guides, example code, and troubleshooting FAQs, ensuring all documents are clear, concise, and up-to-date.
- Content Reviews & Leadership. Lead content review processes, offering constructive feedback to junior writers and other team members. Assist in editing and refining content for accuracy and clarity.
- Optimize Documentation. Continuously improve content by incorporating user feedback, analyzing usage metrics, and keeping pace with evolving cloud technologies and customer needs.
- Documentation Strategy. Establish documentation workflows, set priorities, and coordinate with multiple teams to ensure timely and efficient delivery of documentation projects.
- Empathy for End Users. Advocate for the end users by understanding their needs and challenges. Develop content that resonates with technical and non-technical audiences alike.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of experience creating technical content for developers, IT administrators, or other technical audiences. This can include creating documentation, educational materials, or technical guides.
- Experience with Web Technologies: Familiarity with writing for the web using Markdown, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript to create web-based documentation or technical content.
- Strong Writing and Editing Skills: Proven ability to communicate complex technical information clearly, concisely, and without excessive jargon. Ability to write in a style that is accessible to both technical and non-technical users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical Expertise. Experience creating content for Cloud Networking products, APIs, networking protocols, or network architecture. Familiarity with cloud technologies like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), AWS, or Azure is a plus.
- Writing for Developer Audiences. Experience writing documentation for developers, covering topics like API documentation, coding tutorials, and network protocols.
- Experience with DevOps. Familiarity with DevOps practices and writing documentation to support Developer Operations, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC), and cloud-based deployment strategies.
- Collaborative Mindset. Ability to collaborate effectively with non-writers (e.g., engineers and product managers) and guide them through the documentation process. Experience in editing and coaching non-writers is an advantage.
- Content Management & Tools. Proficiency with content management systems (CMS) or documentation tools like Git, Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms.
