This is a unique opportunity to help build and shape the Machine Translations team from the ground up, focusing on developing scalable and high-quality translation infrastructure. As an engineer on this team, you will tackle complex technical challenges and significantly influence the team’s future roadmap.

Responsibilities

1. Design and Development. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Solution Architects, UX Design, and QA to design and develop enhancements for our translation system. Ensure seamless integration with other business applications and drive incremental improvements in business metrics.
2. Innovation and Improvement. Stay current with industry advancements in translation technologies. Propose and prioritize new features and enhancements to the translation infrastructure in partnership with the product and engineering manager.
3. Technical Excellence. Develop and deploy high-quality code using languages such as Java or Scala, adhering to industry best practices. Track and improve key service level indicators (SLIs).
4. Problem Solving. Debug and resolve production issues, conduct blameless retrospectives, and participate in on-call rotations to uphold service level agreements (SLAs).
5. Leadership and Mentorship. Lead and mentor team members, contribute to process improvements, and foster a strong engineering culture.

Basic Qualifications

1. Experience. 8+ years in backend software engineering roles with a proven track record of delivering long-term technical solutions to complex, cross-functional business problems.
2. Technical Skills. Expertise in designing distributed systems, implementing APIs, writing automated tests, and developing scalable microservices and storage layers. Proficiency with Java, Play/Scala, MySql, ElasticSearch, and Kafka.
3. Cloud Services. Strong experience with managed cloud services and streaming technologies, and handling large data sets.
4. Problem-Solving. Demonstrated ability to conduct rigorous technical research and solve high-level business problems.
5. Mentoring. Proven track record of mentoring team members and establishing a strong engineering culture.
6. Data-Driven. Motivated by success and learnings through experiments and metrics analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Translation Services. Prior experience with managed translation services.
2. Localization. Familiarity with localization and internationalization domains.
3. Frontend Integration. Knowledge of integrating translations in frontend and mobile applications.
4. Resourcefulness. Experience delivering results in resource-constrained environments with minimal guidance.
5. Influence. Proven ability to influence and advocate for roadmaps effectively.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration. Experience working with technical and non-technical teams to achieve significant business impact.
7. Adaptability. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and navigate ambiguity with confidence.
