As a Senior Staff Software Engineer, you will engage with engineers, architects, product managers, and cross-functional teams to help deliver enterprise-grade solutions that empower our customers to digitally transform their businesses. You’ll also be a part of a team that drives technical excellence, including the design, architecture, and execution of observability solutions that help Google Cloud customers monitor and troubleshoot applications at scale.
Responsibilities
- Provide Technical Leadership. Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the Cloud Observability team, ensuring the team adheres to high standards in code quality, reliability, and performance.
- Ownership of Key Projects. Take ownership of critical projects like Error Reporting, Uptime Monitoring, and Cloud Profiler. You will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of these services from design to deployment.
- Design and Architecture. Design, build, and launch the Observability Hub, driving the architecture and implementation strategies while making key decisions about technology, system design, and trade-offs.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration. Collaborate across teams to align the Cloud Observability product vision with broader business objectives and customer needs.
- Innovate and Optimize. Take ownership of key technical decisions and explore new ways to improve observability across Google Cloud’s infrastructure. You will work on complex problems to enhance the customer experience.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of experience in software development, with a solid understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- 5+ years of experience in a technical leadership role, including leading project teams and setting technical direction.
- 3+ years of experience working in a matrixed organization, including cross-functional or cross-business projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud infrastructure and platforms.
- Familiarity with OpenTelemetry, Datadog APIs, and other observability tools.
- Experience working with cloud developers and operators to optimize cloud-native observability solutions.
