As a Senior Lead Analyst at American Express, you’ll be responsible for managing and overseeing accounts payable functions, ensuring accurate and efficient processing of invoices, payments, and reconciliations. You’ll collaborate with various internal departments to ensure timely payment processing while supporting initiatives for process improvements and system enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and review invoices to ensure they are accurate and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely payment of supplier invoices by maintaining proper documentation.
- Investigate discrepancies in invoices and resolve issues promptly.
- Perform reconciliations of supplier payment invoices, identifying any discrepancies and taking necessary actions to resolve them.
- Collaborate with internal teams to obtain necessary approvals and clear up payment issues.
- Process payments including checks and wire transfers.
- Address vendor inquiries and resolve payment-related issues with a sense of urgency and professionalism.
- Maintain up-to-date records of all accounts payable transactions.
- Assist in month-end closing activities, including performing account reconciliations.
- Help with generating and analyzing reports related to accounts payable.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives, focusing on enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of accounts payable processes.
- Drive standardization and continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operations.
- Work with cross-functional teams such as business users, controllership, tax, technology, and other stakeholders for system enhancements and process improvements.
- Maintain strong working relationships with business users to resolve any issues or inquiries related to accounts payable.
- Provide necessary documentation and explanations for audits related to accounts payable transactions.
- Manage multiple priorities efficiently while ensuring deadlines are met.
- Take accountability for the accuracy and completeness of accounts payable activities.
- Have a clear understanding of the entire accounts payable process, including inputs, controls, metrics, risks, and outputs.
- Engage in various projects and initiatives aimed at improving the accounts payable function and overall financial operations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Educational Background. A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience. A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar role, with a solid understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations.
- Software Proficiency. Familiarity with accounting software and ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software.
- Attention to Detail. High level of attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills. Strong ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and vendors, along with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Organization & Time Management. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced ERP/Accounting Software Skills. Experience with specific ERP systems is a plus, allowing for smooth navigation and process execution.
- Leadership Experience. Ability to lead small teams or manage accounts payable processes in a leadership capacity.
