Job Description

The Network Operations Lead will function as a key Subject Matter Expert (SME) in managing Airtel's IT Data Center network. This role involves ensuring the reliability, stability, and efficiency of network operations, requiring a blend of technical expertise and strategic oversight.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day network operations and ensure optimal performance across WAN and LAN environments.
  • Establish and implement operational processes and best practices to enhance network reliability and efficiency.
  • Provide advanced technical support for network-related issues, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex network incidents, utilizing diagnostic tools to identify root causes.
  • Design, configure, and deploy network devices (routers, switches, load balancers) according to organizational guidelines and best practices.
  • Manage the implementation of network projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to specifications.
  • Optimize network performance through the configuration of switching technologies such as VLANs, link aggregation, and Spanning Tree Protocols (RSTP/MSTP).
  • Analyze network traffic patterns and adjust configurations to improve efficiency and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark) to continuously assess network health and performance.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and upgrades of network infrastructure, including firmware updates and patch management.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare reports on network performance and incidents for management review and strategic planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver network solutions that meet business needs.
  • Provide training and mentorship to junior team members and support them in their professional development.
  • Participate in strategic planning for network expansion, upgrades, and new technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that align with organizational goals.
  • Integrate network security measures into the infrastructure to protect against unauthorized access and cyber threats.
  • Stay informed about the latest security trends and protocols to ensure compliance and best practices.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Networking Protocols. In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and related protocols.
  • Device Expertise. Hands-on experience with Cisco Nexus (5K, 7K, 9K), Arista (7504, 7050), and Juniper (5100) devices.
  • Fabric Technologies. Familiarity with Data Center Fabric technologies such as Cisco ACI, Arista EVPN, and Juniper Apstra.

Monitoring and Automation

  • Proficiency in using network monitoring and diagnostic tools like Wireshark, SolarWinds, NetFlow, and SNMP.
  • Ability to create scripts (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks to improve operational efficiency.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster collaboration across different teams.

Certifications

  • Relevant professional certifications (CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP) are highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with VMware technologies (e.g., VMware NSX-T) is an added advantage.

Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills

  • Strong analytical skills to assess network issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement preventive measures.
