We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer/Architect with a specialization in PostgreSQL to lead our database migration and optimization initiatives. This role involves transitioning our database from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL while ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining data integrity. You will be at the forefront of optimizing our PostgreSQL databases for performance and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create robust data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Database Migration. Lead and facilitate the migration of databases from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL using AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) to ensure a seamless transition with minimal downtime and accurate data transfer.
2. Performance Optimization. Optimize PostgreSQL databases focusing on query optimization, indexing strategies, partitioning, and schema design improvements to enhance overall database performance.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration. Work closely with product teams, software engineers, and data scientists to understand data requirements and develop effective data solutions.
4. Monitoring and Troubleshooting. Monitor PostgreSQL database performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability and reliability of database systems.
5. ETL Pipeline Development. Design, build, and maintain efficient ETL pipelines to facilitate data transfer between various systems, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
6. Best Practices Documentation. Establish and document best practices for database management, security, and disaster recovery within a cloud environment, with a strong emphasis on AWS.
7. Migration Planning. Develop comprehensive migration plans and roadmaps, including testing, validation, and post-migration optimization to ensure successful outcomes.

Qualifications

1. PostgreSQL Expertise. Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, particularly in performance tuning, indexing, query planning, and schema optimization.
2. Migration Experience. Proven experience with large-scale database migrations from MS SQL Server to PostgreSQL, including hands-on experience with AWS DMS.
3. SQL Proficiency. Proficient in SQL and solid understanding of relational database design principles.
4. ETL and Data Pipelines. Experience in developing ETL processes and integrating data from multiple sources.
5. Cloud Familiarity. Familiarity with cloud platforms, especially AWS (e.g., RDS, Aurora) and their database services.
6. Database Security Knowledge. Strong understanding of database security best practices, including encryption, access management, and auditing.
7. Problem-Solving Skills. Exceptional problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and resolving complex data-related issues.
8. Communication Skills. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and remote team environment.
