What is new in Windows Phone 8
Windows Phone 8 will probably be the final name of the next version
of Windows Phone 7 operating system that is currently being referred as
codename “Apollo”. Rumor has is this new OS will be available sometime in the fourth
quarter of 2012. Microsoft also plans to automatically move all Windows Phone
7.5 apps to be available on WP 8.
One of the key improvements in WP 8 is supposed to be major upgrade
in hardware including multicore processors, new screen resolutions and microSD
cards.
WP 8 also will use similar components as Windows 8 and will
share similar user interface.
SkyDrive integration will be another key factor in WP 8. I would
not be surprised if WP 8 apps will be installed and purchased through Windows
Store.
I know it is too early to say but I wonder if Microsoft will
change its mind and just have Windows 8 mobile (it may be the name for Windows
Phone 8) running on all smart phones. Some manufacturers including Nokia and
Samsung are already working on Windows 8 tablets.
Since the launch of Windows
8 consumer preview on Feb 29, more and more I learn and
read about Windows 8, more and more I realize that
Microsoft is betting big Metro style apps. Windows Phone as a mobile operating system has not
proved a lot. It is still a baby if you compare with iOS and Android.
I still am trying to figure out why Microsoft will continue
working with Windows Phone while Windows 8 is already there? They should be
just focusing on Windows 8.
Time will tell, unless you have some insight to share with
