Microsoft MVP Award FAQ
What is the MVP Award?
Microsoft recognizes exceptional, independent community leaders who share their passion, technical expertise, and real-world knowledge of Microsoft products with others. As a recognition, the Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award is given to an individual. MVP Award is for 1-year only. Microsoft MVP Award is not a certificate that you can get by passing an exam.
Who are MVPs?
MVPs are exceptional community leaders who actively share their high-quality, real-world deep technical expertise with the community and with Microsoft. They are committed to helping others get the most out of their experience with Microsoft products and technologies.
Why does Microsoft recognize community leaders?
Technical communities play a vital role in the adoption and advancement of technology—and in helping our customers do great things with our products. The MVP Award provides us with an opportunity to say thank you and to bring the voice of community into our technology roadmap.
What are the benefits of being a Microsoft MVP?
Microsoft MVP Award does not have any monetary value associated with it. Microsoft provides technical resources and connectivity with Microsoft product teams to learn more about product roadmaps and the future of technologies. MVPs get a chance to attend Microsoft MVP Global Summit and other local events. Some of the major benefits I see are professional networking with fellow MVPs around the globe, personal relationship with Microsoft product teams, and regional and local Microsoft offices.
How to become an MVP?
MVPs are passionate about Microsoft technology and recognized for their exceptional technical expertise, their willingness to help others make the most of their technology, and for making a significant and positive impact on technical communities. Potential MVPs are nominated by other technical community members, current and former MVPs, and Microsoft personnel who have noted their community leadership.
How many MVPs are in the World?
About 3,800 leaders are recognized as MVPs each year.
Who selects MVPs?
Microsoft’s internal team of people selects MVPs. Each nominee's contributions are compared to other candidates' contributions for the same year. Current MVPs receive the same level of scrutiny as new candidates each year.
Who nominates MVPs?
A community leader or a current or former MVP can nominate a potential MVP. You can also nominate yourself as an MVP.
