Power Apps – This App is Not Working

Recently many organizations have upgraded to the newer MS Teams version as per Microsoft roadmap.

Due to this, it had an impact on SharePoint pages and Power Apps which were shown as an embedded app or page in the “Website” tab in MS Teams (Desktop client).

The reason behind it is that the new MS Teams (Desktop client) now doesn’t support full iframe for the embedded SharePoint pages or Power Apps apps, hence SharePoint pages or Power Apps apps are not loading in the tab. Whereas it works fine in the new MS Teams browser version.

It shows the below message to the user for the Power Apps app (added in the “Website” tab).

Power app

It is better to inform Customers already about this (as a Known issue from Microsoft) before deploying the Power Apps app to Production. Customers can open the Power Apps app in a browser anyway and continue working from there.

Please note that there is another approach as well. “Power Apps” can be added to MS Teams from the store (if not blocked in Teams admin center app policies) and new apps can be developed in the MS Teams version of Power Apps (“Microsoft Dataverse for Teams” environment). This approach should work fine as per MS guidelines.

The Website tab is not a supported mechanism for integrating content into Teams. The Website tab has always been a best-effort mechanism and we cannot guarantee that the content embedded in it will work as expected. If the content doesn't work, then customers should click on the "Open in browser" button in the warning header to launch the pinned URL in their default browser where it should work as expected.

From a technical perspective, the Electron webview that we used to embed websites into the Classic Teams Client has been deprecated and we have switched to using a vanilla iframe in the New Teams Client. That means a number of sites that worked in the Classic Teams Client will no longer work in the New Teams Client. Customers should use dedicated apps from the Store to embed the content where available or load the sites in their browser if no app is available.
