I've been using Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 for over a year now but I hardly go to so infamous "metro" mode. I usually stay in the Desktop mode and do my work :)
Recently, I was in the metro mode and noticed Apps now have Close and Minimize buttons on the title bar.
No need to do ALT+F4 if you don't want to.
