Introduction
In Power Automate, at times we need to perform Subtraction arithmetic operations so that we can get easily desired results. As an example, let us see how to calculate the warranty period that is available in years for the Generator with the help of the Subtraction function.
Step 1
Login to the required Power Apps environment using URL make.powerapps.com by providing username and password and click on Flows on the left-hand side as shown in the below figure.
Step 2
After step 1, Click on New Flow and select instant cloud flow and provide the trigger as Manually trigger a flow and click on Create as shown in the below figure.
Step 3
After step 2, add a parallel branch and in one part name flow as Subtraction Function and take initialize variableaction and provide step name it as Initialize Variable to Hold Generator Age(1 Year) and then provide the inputs as in one side
Name: Generator Age
Type: Integer
Value: 1
as shown in the below figure.
Step 4
After step 3, on another side of the parallel branch take initialize variableaction and provide step name it as Initialize variable to Hold Generator Warranty Period (5 years) and then provide the inputs as in one side
Name: Generator Warranty Period
Type: Integer
Value: 5
as shown in the below figure.
Step 5
After step 4, now take compose action and name it as Calculate Remaining Generator Warranty Period in Years and provide the following inputs as below with div function and it expects the following syntax,
sub(minuend: number, subtrahend: number)
and provide,
sub(variables('Generator Warranty Period'),variables('Generator Age'))
and click on update/ok as shown in the below figure.
Step 6
After step 5, now test and run flow and observe the result as shown in the below figure.
Note
- Make sure to save and run the flow whenever you try expressions.
- MS documentation is found here.
Conclusion
In this way, we can easily perform arithmetic operations like Subtraction to achieve simple requirements in Power Automate flow.
