In continuation of my previous blog post, today we will explore the different options for triggering a UI flow in Power Automate. The choice of trigger depends on the type of UI flow (also known as Desktop Flow) that you have created.
Types of UI Flow Triggers
UI flows can be triggered in two main modes.
- Attended Mode: To run an attended UI flow, you need an active Windows user session that matches the user configured for your connection. Additionally, the session must not be locked.
- Unattended Mode: For running unattended UI flows, the target machine must be available with all users signed out.
Prerequisites
Before triggering a UI flow, ensure you meet the following prerequisites.
- You need an on-premises data gateway for your device to have the UI flow triggered by Power Automate.
- A work or school account is required.
Steps to Trigger a UI Flow from Power Automate
Here’s how you can set up and trigger a UI flow from Power Automate:
- Sign in to Power Automate.
- Select My Flows from the left navigation pane.
- Select New, and then choose your desired type of flow.
- Enter a name for your flow in the Flow name box.
- Select Create, and then click on New step.
- Provide the gateway information and device credentials. You will need to do this once per device:
- Gateway: Choose the gateway you created earlier or use the New gateway to create a new one.
- Domain and Username: Displays the work or school account from the device.
- Password: Enter your work or school account’s password.
- Select the UI flow that you previously created.
- Select Save to save your automated flow.
- Test your flow to ensure it works as expected.
