Q. Where can I ask questions before and during the Hackathon?

Answer: You can ask questions below in the comment session, or in the official hackathon discord channel. You can utilize the DevPost forum as well.

Q. Are there any particular Submission Categories?

You can submit any solution to any problem; the only criteria is that it uses Stratis Blockchain Technology. Given below are some of the submission categories

Gaming

Submissions for gaming should contain an end-to-end game that incorporates Blockchain Technology in some way. This can be accomplished through the use of an earn-to-play model, the issuing of non-fungible tokens, or the use of Smart Contracts to provide a truly trustless experience for the player.

Stratis provides Software Development Kits for both the Unity Gaming Engine and the Unreal Gaming Engine to assist with the game integration process.

DeFi

A DeFi submission can focus on implementing a lending protocol, trade management solutions, and anything related to financial services on the blockchain.

NFT

An NFT proposal should concentrate on technology for the administration, generation, and use of NFTs. For instance, an NFT Platform, NFT Creation Tooling, and anything else connected to NFT administration. An NFT Collection can also be submitted, but it must stand out and be extremely distinctive in order to meet the judging requirements.

Tooling

A tooling proposal must focus on introducing new tools to the Stratis Platform, such as an SDK for a different programming language or, as another example, a wallet implementation.

The judges will ask questions such as: does the tool serve a valuable purpose, is it simple and enjoyable to use, is it doing anything novel, and how well does the product work? Submissions may include any type of software application, including online, cloud, personal computer, mobile device, or console, but they must use Stratis Smart Contracts in C#.

Q. What will be the Judging Criteria?

Answer: A panel of judges chosen by the Sponsor (the "Judges") will review all eligible entries. Judges may be sponsors' or third-party workers, and they may or may not be identified individually on the Hackathon Website. Judges may also change before or during the Judging Period. At the option of the sponsor, judging may occur in one or more rounds with one or more panels of Judges.

Stage One: The first stage will examine if the concepts reach a basic degree of viability, in that the project reasonably fits the topic and properly uses the requisite APIs/SDKs included in the Hackathon, using a pass/fail system.

Stage Two: All entries that pass Stage One will be reviewed in Stage Two using the equally weighted criteria listed below (the "Judging Criteria"):

Entries will be judged on the following equally weighted criteria, and according to the sole and absolute discretion of the judges:

  • Utility
    • Does the entry solve a real-world problem?
    • How well-identified is the potential audience or market for the contract?
    • Is the entry a case where blockchain / smart contracts explicitly help?
e.g. remove an intermediary, increase transparency
  • Usability
    • Are the contracts readable?
    • Are they easy to understand, audit and is it obvious what the different methods will do?
    • What - if any - tools have been built to help interact with the contract(s) or show their real-world application?
  • Creativity
    • How innovative is the idea?
    • Is this a new approach?
    • If applicable, does the entry tell a story, build a brand or have some personal flavor?
  • Functionality
    • Do the core parts of the contracts behave correctly?
    • How well-tested are the contracts?
    • How optimized are the contracts?
    • Do the methods generally, consume the least possible amount of gas?

The Judges' scores will be used to select the prospective winners of the appropriate awards. Entrants who are eligible for a Prize and whose Submissions receive the highest overall score based on the applicable Judging Criteria will be considered possible winners of that Prize.

Tie-Breaking. If two or more submissions are tied for any of the prizes stated below, the tied Submission with the highest score in the first applicable criterion given above will be considered the higher scoring Submission. If any ties remain, this process will be repeated as necessary by comparing the scores of the tied Submissions on the next appropriate criterion. If two or more entries are tied on all relevant criteria, the panel of Judges will cast a vote on the tied submissions.
