In today’s fast-paced work environment, collaboration and information sharing are key to success. Microsoft’s SharePoint and Stream platforms offer robust solutions for creating, managing, and sharing playlists that enhance team productivity and knowledge sharing.
Add a playlist to a SharePoint Page
- Edit your SharePoint Page where you want to embed a playlist and add a Stream web part from the toolbox.
- Edit the web part and select the Source as Playlist.
- Select the playlist from the dropdown that you want to embed on the Page.
- Choose the other configurations from the picker and select Apply.
- Publish your page and there you go. The playlist is now embedded.
- Alternatively, you can also add the playlist via the List web part. This allows your page viewers to also share and subscribe to the playlist.
Create a first Playlist or a New Playlist
In case, you don't have a playlist created earlier here are the steps using which you can create it.
- Go to the Microsoft List.
- Create a New List.
- And from the Templates Section select "PlayList".
- Provide a name to your Playlist list.
- And also select to which site you want to add this List.
- Once done, you can add the videos to be displayed as your playlist items.
- Then go to your stream page and edit it, now you will able to select this Playlist.
Sharing and Permissions
When it comes to sharing playlists, SharePoint and Stream provide flexible options. You can assign editing rights to collaborators or viewer rights to those who only need to view the content.
This ensures that the right people have the appropriate level of access to the playlists.
Publishing to a Wider Audience
For broader dissemination, the share dialog box is your go-to tool. By entering an organization-wide or team-wide mailing list, you can easily reach a large audience.
Additionally, the list web part allows for seamless publishing of playlists on SharePoint sites accessible to your entire organization or specific teams.
Future Enhancements
While you can currently share playlists using ‘shareable links,’ the ability to embed playlists in non-SharePoint sites is in development and will be available soon.
This upcoming feature promises to further extend the reach of your shared content.
Access Management
Managing access to a shared playlist is straightforward. If you have view permissions, you can reshare the playlist, provided it’s not restricted to a specific set of viewers.
In such cases, you can request the playlist owner to modify the sharing permissions.
Integration with Teams
Although adding a playlist to your Teams tabs is not currently supported, this feature is in the pipeline. Soon, you’ll be able to integrate playlists directly into your Teams channels and chats via the List app.
Requesting Access
If you encounter a video or playlist you don’t have access to, the process to request access is simple. Select the locked video or playlist link, and you’ll be directed to the OneDrive and SharePoint request access experience. Here, you can send a message to the playlist owner asking for access.
Conclusion
Microsoft is continuously improving SharePoint and Stream to make sharing and collaborating on playlists more intuitive and accessible. With these tools, teams can efficiently manage content and stay connected, paving the way for a more collaborative future.
