Setting Up Azure Blob Storage Encryption

Introduction

In the era of data security, configuring encryption for an Azure Blob Storage account is vital. This article will guide you through the essential steps to establish encryption requirements, ensuring your data remains safe and compliant in Microsoft Azure.

Step 1. Sign in to the Azure portal via https://portal.azure.com/.

Step 2. Navigate to your storage account. In the storage account, navigate to Security + Networking, then choose Encryption to proceed further.

Step 3. For Encryption type, select Customer-managed keys. For the key selection, select Select from key vault. Then click on the link to Select a key vault and key.

Step 4. In the Select, a key step, select the subscription, key store type, and key vault to store the customer-managed encryption key.

Step 5. If you have an existing key stored in your key vault, select the key from the dropdown. Otherwise, select Create a new key. I will create a new key.

Step 6. In the Create a key step, select the Generate option, give the key a name, choose the key type and size, and set any activation and expiration dates. Ensure Enabled is set to Yes, then click on Create.

Step 7. In the Select a key window, ensure the newly created key is selected in the Key dropdown, then click Select.

Step 8. Back in the Encryption settings, you will see the chosen key vault and the key name. Then click on Save.
