A Quick Links web part in SharePoint allows you to add links to various types of content, such as documents, videos, pages, and images, making it a versatile tool for designing your SharePoint page.
Adding Quick Links Web Part in SharePoint Online Page
1. To add a Quick Links web part to a SharePoint Online page, enter Edit mode by clicking the Edit button at the top right corner of the page, click on the circled icon “+” to add a new web part, search for Quick Links in the search box, and select the Quick Links web part.
2. After inserting the webpart, the default layout will be added with editing options such as Move, Edit, Duplicate, and Delete Web part and Layout Options. To customize the Quick Links web part title, simply click on the existing title and begin typing your own desired title over it. Click on the Edit web part to open the property pane on the right side of the screen.
3. Layout Options
- Compact: By default, the compact layout is selected in SharePoint, which is ideal for displaying small images on the left side of the page or for displaying links without any accompanying icons or images. When the compact layout is selected, the option to ‘Show image in layout’ is available.
- Filmstrip: This layout in the Quick Links web part displays links as a horizontal scrolling strip of images with titles and descriptions, allowing for a visually engaging way to showcase links to various content on your SharePoint page. Quick links cannot be reordered in the filmstrip layout.
- Grid: The Grid layout in the Quick Links web part displays links in a grid format with images, titles, and descriptions.
- Button: Using the Button layout in the Quick Links web part allows you to display links as interactive buttons with the option to show a description, change the position of the icon (Icon on Left, Icon on Top or No Icon), Button appearance (Outline, No Outline, Fill Color), Alignment (Top or Center), Title Text (One Line or Two Lines).
- List: This layout will display links in a simple vertical list format. The editing option to Show description and show icons is available.
- Tiles: The Tiles layout in the Quick Links web part displays links as a set of customizable tiles. The editing option to change the size of the icon or show only the icon or image is available.
Adding Links to Quick Links Web Part in SharePoint Online Page
1. To add links to the quick link web part, click Add Links; default options will be displayed. Select from the relevant option and click on Insert.
2. On click of Insert, the link will be inserted in the web part. Select the desired layout and publish the page.
Different Editing Options for different layouts
To view editing options for the selected layout, click the edit option near the link.
- For Compact, Filmstrip, Grid and Tiles Layout: Options to change the link, edit title, select custom image or icon, and provide alternative text for thumbnail image is available.
- For Button and List Layout: Editing options similar to Compact, Filmstrip, Grid and Tiles Layout are displayed along with additional options to add description.
