Steps for migration of SharePoint 2010 to SharePoint Online
Go to the the Start menu and search for "Content Matrix SharePoint Edition".
There are two windows. In one window, you can connect to your source site and in the other one, you connect to the targeted site for migration.
Note - Metalogix provides two options in the top menu in connection tab.
You can connect to your source or targeted site through database or direct SharePoint site. However, I would suggest that everyone should connect through the database.
If you are connecting though the database, then you should have administrative privileges to access the database and must know the credential details. Once you click "Connect through Database", it will ask for credentials and your database name.
If you are trying to connect through SharePoint, then you should have administrative access to SharePoint sites. Once you click on "Connect though SharePoint", it will ask for credentials.
In the Address field, put your source site address; select Targeted type as site; the connection type will be Auto Detect by default; set Authentication Type as Office 365 Standard, for connection to SharePoint online. Finally, click OK.
Once you are connected to the site, you will be able to start migration.
There are two types of migration.
- Site level migration
- Document level migration
Site level migration
In this type of migration, you are able to migrate the content site-wise which means you directly right click on the source site and click on "Copy Site", then go to the right side window, choose the targeted site and click "Paste Site Content >> All Site Content".
Document level migration
Before starting document level migration, you need to ensure that you have created the targeted site already.
In this migration, you should migrate from On premises List or document library to SharePoint Online List or document library, or Announcement to SharePoint Online Announcement like this.
Once your migration is completed, go through both the sites and check if everything is migrated correctly or not.
You may also confirm through log file under Metalogix tool.
Please try it on your end and let me know if you are facing any problem.
