Introduction to Subsites
We have seen that SharePoint has many main components such as Web Application, Site Collections. The next key point in SharePoint components is SharePoint Subsites. SharePoint subsites are the sites created under any SharePoint Site Collection. In other words, if we have to define the SharePoint subsites, then everyone will have their own definition. I will define SharePoint subsites as “The SharePoint site which has Site Collection as a parent site or any other site as a parent site then it is called as SharePoint subsites”.
Let's understand this with the below-given image.
Here Subsite-1 and Subsite-2 are the SharePoint Subsites as it has the parent of this subsites as a subsite or Site Collection. One fact about SharePoint Site Collection and SharePoint Subsites is SharePoint Site Collection cannot contain a parent site as SharePoint Site Collection or a Site Collection cannot contain any Sub Site Collection. Site collection will be always created at the root level of SharePoint Web Application.
