How To Enable Soft Delete For Blobs And Containers

Overview

This document shows you how to enable Soft Delete for Blobs and Containers in Azure.

Risks

Only risks are that the files that are being deleted will be permanently deleted after 7 days with no ability to recover them. If more time is desired, we need to change the retention setting from 7 days to a longer period.

Process

  1. Log into https://portal.azure.com and using the Search bar go to Storage Accounts
  2. Select the storage account
  3. Click the Data Protection Blade and
     
    • Select Enable Soft Deletion for Blobs and leave the value in the text box as 7 – this is days the deleted item will remain until it is permanently deleted
    • Select Enable Soft Deletion for Blobs and leave the value in the text box as 7 – this is days the deleted item will remain until it is permanently deleted

How to Enable Soft Delete for Blobs and Containers

Click Save.

Verification Process.

Is visual - if the checkbox remains after saving the changes, is set.
