Introduction
In the Azure portal, the default dashboard is used as a starting point for users. Users can also edit or modify it according to their needs. Users can also create and modify the additional dashboards based on the projects, and various tasks and also make it available to others by publishing in sharing mode.
Azure Portal provides a centered and structured view of various cloud resources. Dashboards provide a workspace to perform daily tasks and monitor the resources.
This tutorial will show you various steps on, how to create, edit, and use a shared dashboard in the Azure portal.
Create a New Dashboard
If you want to create a new custom dashboard, then follow the instructions below to proceed.
Step 1
First of all, you need to sign in to the Azure Portal.
Step 2
Azure Portal will appear on the screen, then click on the menu icon and select the "Dashboard" option.
Step 3
Now, click on the "New Dashboard" button.
Step 4
To identify your new custom dashboard, enter the unique "Dashboard" name, by clicking on the "My Dashboard" text.
Step 5
From the "Tile Gallery", you can select any tile by either clicking on the "Add" button or by the drag and drop option.
Step 6
Click on the "Done customizing" button to save your custom dashboard.
Edit a dashboard
Once you have created your own new custom dashboard and want to edit the dashboard to add, resize, and arrange the tiles, follow the below instructions to proceed.
A) Add tiles to the Dashboard
Follow the below instructions to add new tiles to your custom dashboard.
Step 1
From the dashboard page header, click on the "Edit" button to proceed.
Step 2
From the "Tile Gallery", search your tile that you want to add.
Step 3
You have two options to add your selected tile,
1) Click on the "Add" button to add the tile to the dashboard. This will add to the default location along with its default size.
2) By dragging the selected tile, you can place it where you want.
B) Resize or Re-arrange the tiles
To change the size of the tile or want to arrange it on the dashboard. Follow the below instructions.
Step 1
From the dashboard page header, click on the "Edit" button.
Step 2
In the top-right corner of the tile, click on the "Context Menu" to resize the tile. Then, you can see that different tile sizes are available in the list. Now, choose any tile size you want.
Note
Tiles that support any size often have a "handle" in the bottom-right corner that enables you to drag the tile up to the size you want.
Step 3
To rearrange the tile, simply drag and drop to a new location on the grid to customize your dashboard.
C) Delete a tile
If you want to remove any tile from the dashboard, then follow the below instructions to proceed.
Step 1
From the dashboard page header, click on the "Edit" button to proceed.
Step 2
Hover to the top-right corner of the tile to remove the tile. Then, click on the "Delete" button to remove the tile from the dashboard.
Clone a dashboard
To use any existing dashboard as a template for the new dashboard, follow the instructions below to proceed.
Step 1
Open the dashboard that you want to clone or use it as a template.
Step 2
In the dashboard page header, click on the "Clone" button.
A copy of the dashboard will be created that will be named "Clone of <dashboard name>" which will open in edit mode by default.
Delete a dashboard
If you want to permanently delete a dashboard, then follow the below instructions to proceed.
Step 1
First of all, select the dashboard that you want to delete.
Step 2
From the dashboard page header, click on the "Delete" button.
Step 3
A confirmation dialog box will appear on the screen, then click on the "OK" button.
Publish a Dashboard
When you create a new dashboard, only you can see and access it, which means it is private by default. If you want to share it with others, then you have to publish and share it. Follow the below instructions to proceed,
Step 1
Click on the drop-down button next to the dashboard name and then, click on the "Browse all dashboards" option.
Step 2
In the "Type" drop-down menu, select the "Shared Dashboards" option.
Now, you can select and use your shared dashboard.
