Introduction
In this article, you will learn how to create users and groups within an Organizational Unit (OU) on Windows Server 2019 or later.
Active Directory Users and Computers is a common tool used by administrators to manage objects in an Active Directory domain.
Step 1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers
- Open Server Manager,
- Click 'Tools',
- Then click 'Active Directory Users and Computers'

Step 2. Create Organisation Unit (OU)
An Organizational Unit (OU) is a powerful container object within Active Directory that enables the delegation of administrative tasks, allowing specific users or groups to manage objects within their assigned OUs. It allows you to manage and organize objects such as users, groups, and computers within the domain.
- Right-click your 'Domain Name' (e.g., technoserve.net),
- Click 'New',
- Then click 'Organizational Unit'.

- Enter your Organizational Unit (OU) name.
- Then click Next.

Step 3. Create a user within an Organizational Unit (OU)
- Right-click your Organizational Unit (OU),
- Then click New,
- Then click User.

Step 4. Create a New Object - User
- Enter the user's first name,
- Enter the user's login name,
- Then click Next.

Step 5. Set the Password for users
- Enter the password and re-enter to confirm the password,
- Set the password to never expire for the user,
- Then click Next

Now, click Finish to create the user.

Step 6. Create a Group
- Right-click your Organizational Unit (OU),
- Then click New,
- Then click Group.

- Select the Group Scope and Group type based on your organizational needs,
- Then click Next.
