Create Power BI Report Using Twitter Analytics

Overview

In this article, we will learn how we can use Twitter Analytics data and prepare a Power BI Report. We can export Twitter Analytics data in .csv format and consume that .csv file to prepare Power BI report.

At the end of the article, you will be able to prepare this kind of report.

Step 1

Go to Twitter Analytics page using this URL

https://analytics.twitter.com/

Sign in with your existing Twitter account.

Step 2

Click on "Get Started".

It will open a dashboard like below.

Step 3

From "Analytics" tab, select "Tweets".

It will open the "Tweet activity" dashboard.

Step 4

I want to prepare a report for the analytical data from last 28 days. So, I will select Last 28 days >> Export data.

If we want to change the time, we can change from the drop-down. It will show different table options.

"Export data" will download the data in .csv format.

Step 5

Open Power BI Desktop >> click on Get Data >> select Text/CSV as a data source.

Choose File.

Load data.

It will load the following data in Power BI.

Step 6

Now, let’s add visuals. First, we will add Date Slicer.

Select time as a field.

Step 7

Now, we will add table visual.

We will add the following columns to the table.

• Tweet Text
• Likes
• Retweets

It will create the visual like this.

Note

You can apply formatting as per your choice in visual.

Step 8

Now, we will add one line and custom column chart in Power BI.

It will represent the count of tweet text, engagements, likes and retweet by days.

Select Line and clustered column chart and the following properties.

On shared Axis > Select time

In Column values, select Tweet Text(count), engagements, likes, and retweets.

From Properties in X-axis, select Categorical.

When we hover on any bar from the chart, it will show day counts of Tweet text, engagements, likes, and retweets.

Example: This bar represents 3 retweets of date 8^th September.

Step 9

Now, we will add one pie chart. This pie chart represents the Impressions by days.

In legend, select time (day).

In Values, select impressions.

It will look like this.

Now, if we hover on any day, it will show the total count of impressions and their percentage.

Ex: September 5 has 98 impressions.

Step 10

Now, we will add Gauge which will represent some useful counts.

I have added total 4 gauges which will represent -

• Total Engagements
• Total Likes
• Total Retweets
• Total Impressions

Total Engagement

From Value, select Engagement Rate(count).

 

Total Likes

From Value, select Likes.

 

Total Retweets

From Value, select retweets.

Total Impression

From Value, select impressions.

Step 11

Now, let’s filter the data based on date. So, I will move slider from date visual.

The below screenshot shows the data without filtering date.

Now, filtering the date will change the data.
