In this article you will learn conditional formatting by Web Url. I have already introduced conditional formatting in my previous article. Conditional formatting by web url is very useful to add hyper links on the text. You can create hyperlinks in Power BI desktop and power services both. Here in this article I will use power bi desktop
Below are the steps to follow to apply conditional formatting by web url.
Step 1
I have the below table data in CSV format.
I have a web url in ‘WebAddress’column. I will use these urls to create hyperlinks on the ‘Product’ column.
So, I am going to import this csv in power bi. Go to home tab and click on ‘Get data’ and further click on ‘Text/CSV’.
Give the path of the file and click on ‘Open’. Once your table has opened click on ‘Load’. If you want to transform the data you can click on ‘Transform data’ here. You can also transform the data after loading.
Loaded table will be shown at the right side of the power bi desktop tool.
Step 2
My second step will be taking visualization. If you want to see the data of the table then click on ‘data’ symbol at the left side of the tool.
Now go to the report and select ‘Table’ or ‘Matrix’ visual and select all columns except ‘Webaddress’.
Step 3
Now I will apply conditional formatting by web url in this table. I want to apply it on ‘Product’ column. So go to the ‘Product’ column below ‘values’ and right click on it. Go to conditional formatting and click on ‘web url’. See the below image for reference.
Once you click on it a new window will be opened. Select all required fields. Select ‘Webaddress’ column in ‘Based on field’. Click on ‘Ok’ to apply formatting.
After applying conditional formatting on ‘Product’ column you data will be shown like the below image.
The values of product column got hyperlinked. If you click on it you will reach web links. For example, if I go to click on ‘Samsung tv’ I will get the web address of this product.
This is a very useful feature of Power bi to create hyperlinks.
You can also apply the same by formatting. Go to the ‘Format’ next to the ‘Values’ and go to conditional formatting
Here you will get ‘a Web URL’ option and you can keep it on or off as per your requirement.
Summary
This is how you can apply conditional formatting by Web URL. Try the above steps. I hope it will help you. Thanks for reading. Have a great day.
