Why Developers Should Be All Over Twitter

Social media has become an integral part of our lives today. Today, our smartphones and social media apps have become like parts of our bodies. If we misplace our smartphones, we feel like one of our body parts is missing :).

Will you agree with me on this?

Let me start by confessing this. I am not a big fan of social media. You will not find me active on Facebook. I am not a big fan of social media that is just purely useless. I like social media that makes me better. I am not saying social media is good or bad. But if you want to grow in your professional life, you must filter out the noise. The noise that distracts you from your goals.

I was born in a village where poverty, hunger, and illiteracy were your best friends. I strive to be better every moment of my life. Every day, I look into my soul and ask myself, what did I do today that made me a better man than yesterday. What did I do today, that made me a better developer today. I’ve been in the software industry for almost 20 years now and I am still hungry.

Now, you may debate, then why are we building C# Corner as a social media platform for developers? Well, C# Corner is a social media platform that makes you better every day. If you just visit C# Corner and read a piece of news or two, I bet you will learn something new.

In this article, I want to share  with you the experience of how Twitter has made me a better professional.

As I said, I wasn't a big fan of social media and wasn't active on social media until a couple of my friends, Pinal Dave and Dhananjay Kumar, convinced me to get more active on Twitter. My reason was very simple. I didn't want any distractions. Finally, a couple of years ago, I got active on Twitter, and I must admit, Twitter has brought me some very fruitful results in my professional life.

Just two points made me a better professional. Because of Twitter, I have a large professional network and I read more news daily.

C# Corner is also very active on Twitter. Check out and follow the C# Corner Twitter account here:

I can only advise what has worked for me in my professional life and I must admit, sharing my knowledge and expertise via C# Corner articles has brought me fortune and fame. That is why I think Every Developer Should Write. Writing articles will help you promote yourself and build your own personal brand.

Besides writing, a developer should take advantage of social media to promote his/her work. Social media can be used as a tool to build your career and Twitter is one of the most useful social media outlets out there.

Recently, Google announced the integration of tweets in its search results. This means every time your name is searched, your tweets also appear in search results. For instance, I searched my name in Google and you can clearly see that my tweets are listed in the search results.

Twitter has also become a vital part of communication. Today, it is much easier to reach people on Twitter than through email or phone calls.

Today, I don't read any newspapers. Any news website I am interested in, I follow them on Twitter and just look at my twitter account and read whatever I am interested in. You can also follow your favorite community websites and people and stay up to date.

Twitter also keeps me in connection with some of the young guys who I may not be in communication with otherwise.

I usually also voice my opinion on Twitter. I also share photos on Twitter.
