In Windows 7 you can create recover media using only an optical media such as CD-RW or Recordable DVD. In Windows 8 however you can can create recovery media using either an optical media or a USB Flash drive. The recovery media can be used to help troubleshoot a problem with your system if it can't start.
Steps to create recovery drive in Windows 8
Step 1
First insert your USB Flash drive into your system. The USB Flash drive must be able to hold 256 MB. After creating the recovery drive everything else will have been deleted that was stored in the USB drive.
Step 2
Move the curser into the bottom-right and click on "Search".
Step 3
In the search box type "RECOVER" and go on "Setting".
Step 4
Click on "Create recovery drive" from the setting window.
Step 5
The Recovery drive window will be shown; click on "Next".
Step 6
Select your USB Flash drive and click on "Next".
Step 7
In this step it will ask for your confirmation, click on "Create".
Step 8
It will take some minutes to transfer the recovery material to the USB Flash drive. After creating the recovery click on "Finish".
If you want to create a recovery media using a CD or DVD then click on "Create system repair disk with a CD or DVD instead" and follow the same steps.
