We will first learn why we need to create an extra hard drive partition. We need to create extra partitions to backup system files, extend functionality and we can use multiple operating systems. Windows 8 provides the built-in Disk Management tool which enables a user to reduce a hard drive partition's size.
Steps How to Shrink Hard Disk partition in Windows 8
Step 1
Move the cursor on the bottom-right and select the search box and enter into the search box what you want.
Step 2
In the search box, you enter the Disk Partition under the Settings tab and click on the window that is shown.

In this step, a new window for Disk Management is opened.
Step 4
So just right-click on the drive having more free space to create a new drive and click on shrink volume.
Step 5
After clicking on Shrink Volume a processing window will be shown, as in.
Step 6
After processing has completed, a new window will appear like this. This window shows mainly three things; Total size before shrink, size available to shrink and the amount you want to shrink. So modify it according to your need and click on the shrink button.
Step 7
In another window, you will see a new Unallocated space which can be used as a new partition as shown below.
