Custom List in Datasheet View in SharePoint 2010

Introduction

Today, in this article let's play around with one of the interesting and most useful concepts in SharePoint 2010.

Question:
 What is a Custom List in Datasheet View?

In simple terms "The list is displayed as an Excel spreadsheet which is easy to create and manage the data".


I think we are now good to go and implement this wonderful concept.
 

 

Step 1: Open SharePoint 2010 Central Administration and navigate to a specific site:

Step 2: Navigate to "Site Actions" ->   "More Options...":

Step 3: Select "Custom List in Datasheet View" from the listed categories. Give a name to the list:

Step 4: The custom list in datasheet view is now created; the site now looks like this:

Step 5: Create new columns for the first name, last name, gender and age:

Step 6: Rearrange the view according to the user's prefered fashion:

Step 7: Data has been added to the list; the site now looks like this:
