President Donald Trump has announced a massive $500 billion private sector investment to build artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across the United States. Speaking at the White House on Tuesday, he unveiled a joint venture called “Stargate,” involving OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle.
“This is about keeping it in America,” Trump said during the briefing. “China and others are competitors, but we’re going to lead. I’ll be helping with emergency measures to get this done quickly. It’s an urgent need, and we’ll ensure they can generate the electricity and resources needed to make it happen.”
The partnership, expected to span four years, aims to create over 100,000 jobs in the U.S., Trump stated. Joining him for the announcement were SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI’s Sam Altman, and Oracle’s Larry Ellison.
Ellison shared that construction has already begun on 10 data centers in Texas, with more planned in other states. While specific details about Stargate remain limited, sources suggest the project will significantly expand America’s AI capabilities.
“AI has incredible potential for all Americans,” Ellison said, emphasizing its role in improving healthcare. Altman echoed this sentiment, calling Stargate “the most important project of this era.”
Altman also expressed hope for AI's transformative impact on medicine. “As this technology advances, we’ll see diseases being cured at an unprecedented pace,” he said.
Additional investors are expected to join the initiative, though their identities remain undisclosed.
This announcement underscores the administration’s focus on keeping technological advancements and investments within the U.S. to bolster the economy and secure global leadership in AI.
