Perplexity acquires Read.cv

Read.cv, a professional social media platform and LinkedIn competitor, has been acquired by AI-powered search engine Perplexity.

As part of the acquisition, Read.cv will begin shutting down operations on Friday. Users can export their profiles, posts, and messages until May 16.

In a blog post, Read.cv expressed excitement about the deal: “We’ve long admired Perplexity and believe great things happen when knowledge is made more open and accessible. We are thrilled to join Perplexity’s design and engineering team to continue our shared mission of exploration and discovery.”

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas shared his enthusiasm on X (formerly Twitter): “The Read.cv team is incredibly skilled in designing and building social experiences. We look forward to working with them on exciting new directions!”

About Read.cv

Founded in 2021 by Andy Chung, a former designer at Facebook and Mozilla, Read.cv allowed users to share resumes, connect with professionals, and access features like team profiles and job listings. It also introduced Sites, enabling users to create personal websites linked to their profiles and ".cv" domains. Starting January 31, management of these domains will transfer to Hello.cv.

Perplexity’s Vision

Perplexity has not yet disclosed its specific plans for Read.cv, a company with a small team of three and backing from F7 Ventures and Fanjul Capital. However, the acquisition aligns with Perplexity’s growing focus on corporate tools, including enterprise plans and internal knowledge searches.

This marks Perplexity’s third acquisition, following its purchase of Carbon and Spellwise. Perplexity, which has raised over $500 million and is valued at $9 billion, continues to expand its reach in the AI and corporate space.
