OpenAI has launched O1, its advanced reasoning AI model, for developers using its API. Initially, only developers in Tier 5 who have spent $1,000 or more and have accounts older than 30 days will get access.

What Makes O1 Different?

O1 is designed to "reason" and check its own responses, making it more accurate than typical AI models. However, it takes longer to respond and costs more,

$15 to analyze 750,000 words.

$60 to generate 750,000 words.

This is six times more expensive than OpenAI’s GPT-4o model.

Key Features of O1

The updated O1 model offers new capabilities, including.

Function Calling: Connects to external data.

Developer Messages: Allows users to control the tone and style of responses.

Image Analysis: Processes visual information.

Reasoning Effort: Allows developers to adjust how long the model takes to respond.

Updates to Realtime API and GPT-4o

OpenAI also introduced improved versions of its GPT-4o models for the real-time API, which provides quick voice responses. These new models are more efficient, reliable, and cost-effective.

Additionally, OpenAI integrated WebRTC for smooth real-time voice applications, even on unstable networks.

New Tools for Developers

OpenAI added preference fine-tuning to its fine-tuning API, helping models learn to deliver better answers. The company also launched early-access developer kits for Go and Java, making integration easier.

These updates highlight OpenAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance its AI tools for developers.
