OpenAI Adds BlackRock Executive Adebayo Ogunlesi to Its Board

OpenAI has announced the appointment of Adebayo Bayo Ogunlesi to its board of directors. Ogunlesi, a senior managing director at BlackRock and CEO of Global Infrastructure Partners, brings decades of experience in global infrastructure and investment to the AI company.

OpenAI Board Chairman Bret Taylor praised Ogunlesi’s expertise, stating he has an exceptional track record of driving success in organizations with global reach. Ogunlesi's background includes 23 years at Credit Suisse, where he held leadership roles, and earlier experience as an attorney and law clerk to Thurgood Marshall, the first Black U.S. Supreme Court Justice.

Currently, Ogunlesi also serves on the boards of BlackRock, Topgolf Callaway Brands, and other prominent organizations. On joining OpenAI, Ogunlesi expressed excitement, saying, The rapid advancement of AI offers a unique opportunity to build a better future. Thoughtful strategies and investment in infrastructure are key to unlocking AI’s full potential.

This appointment comes as part of OpenAI’s broader leadership transformation following significant changes to its board in late 2023. The current board includes notable figures like Sam Altman, Bret Taylor, Quora CEO Adam D’Angelo, and others, with a renewed focus on shaping the future of AI responsibly.
