Nvidia has officially completed its purchase of Run:ai, an Israeli startup that helps manage and optimize hardware for AI. Run:ai’s software is used to make AI systems run more smoothly and efficiently.
As part of this deal, Run:ai announced that its software, which currently only works with Nvidia products, will be open sourced. This means that competitors like AMD and Intel will be able to adapt the software to work with their hardware as well.
In a statement to Bloomberg, Run:ai said, "We are excited to build on what we’ve achieved so far, expand our team, and grow our product and market reach. By open-sourcing the software, we’ll make it available to the entire AI industry."
Nvidia first announced its plan to buy Run:ai in April, with early reports suggesting the deal was worth $700 million. However, the deal faced delays due to investigations by regulators. Both the European Commission and the U.S. Department of Justice looked into whether the acquisition would hurt competition in the industry.
The European Commission gave its approval in December, allowing the deal to finally go through.
