Job Description

We are looking for an experienced and dedicated System Administrator to join our Platform as a Service (PaaS) team. As a critical member of this team, you will play a key role in building, supporting, and maintaining our on-premises Kubernetes platform. This position requires a strong background in system administration, hands-on experience with Kubernetes, and the ability to troubleshoot and support application teams as they deploy services to the platform.

You will be responsible for ensuring the continuous availability, security, and performance of our Kubernetes infrastructure across multiple environments. Your day-to-day tasks will involve a mix of incident response, proactive maintenance, automation, and direct collaboration with application teams to resolve issues and optimize deployments. Key Responsibilities

Kubernetes Platform Support & Maintenance

  • Provide ongoing support for our Kubernetes platform across all environments, ensuring reliability and optimal performance.
  • Maintain platform stability, security, and efficiency to support application teams deploying workloads.
  • Actively monitor and troubleshoot platform issues, resolving incidents within established SLAs.

Incident Response & Troubleshooting

  • Respond promptly to incidents during on-shift hours, adhering to SLA guidelines for both production and non-production environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolution for deployment failures, performance bottlenecks, and other system-related issues.
  • Diagnose and resolve common platform-related issues.
  • Troubleshooting Kubernetes deployments and workloads.
  • Validating cluster health following system updates or external changes.
  • Restarting pods, scaling services, synchronizing credentials, and running Kubernetes commands.

Regular Maintenance & Platform Upgrades

  • Conduct routine maintenance activities, including applying patches, running administrative scripts, and upgrading Kubernetes versions.
  • Perform OS-level maintenance and security updates on host systems to ensure compliance and performance.
  • Automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency and reduce operational overhead.

User Support & Collaboration

  • Work closely with application development teams to provide guidance and support for Kubernetes deployments.
  • Assist teams in optimizing their applications for performance, security, and scalability within the Kubernetes environment.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Kubernetes-related best practices and troubleshooting techniques.

Automation & Infrastructure Enhancement

  • Design and implement automation scripts and tools to improve platform efficiency and reliability.
  • Contribute to infrastructure-as-code (IaC) initiatives to streamline cluster provisioning and configuration management.
  • Implement monitoring solutions to enhance observability and proactively detect issues.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Linux System Administration

  • 5+ years of experience with Linux administration, including system tuning, troubleshooting, and command-line expertise.

Kubernetes Expertise

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with Kubernetes, including deployment troubleshooting and resource management.
  • Strong proficiency with kubectl and other Kubernetes tools.

Production Support & Incident Handling

  • Experience managing production environments, responding to incidents, and performing root cause analysis.
  • Ability to work under pressure to resolve critical system issues.

Configuration Management & Automation

  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar configuration management tools.
  • Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python) for automating administrative tasks.

Source Control & CI/CD

  • Hands-on experience with GitHub and version control best practices.
  • Knowledge of implementing branching strategies and managing source code repositories.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Prometheus, and Grafana.
  • Ability to configure and create dashboards for system performance monitoring.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of container security best practices and Kubernetes RBAC.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies.
  • Understanding of networking concepts related to Kubernetes, including service mesh technologies like Istio.
