Job Description

As a Software Test Engineer (SDET) at PhonePe, you’ll own the quality of large features, products, and services, ensuring their successful execution from start to finish. You will drive test strategies, automation efforts, and contribute to the overall software development lifecycle, working on both functional and non-functional testing. You’ll collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and cross-functional teams to create a robust testing framework that ensures high-quality releases.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Test Automation Ownership. Develop and maintain test automation scripts for various platforms including mobile apps (Android & iOS), APIs, Web, and performance testing using frameworks like Espresso, XCUITest, Appium, Selenium, Rest-Assured, and Locust.
  2. Quality Ownership. Take complete ownership of the quality process for large features/products/services, focusing on end-user experience and impact.
  3. Execution Path Definition. Independently define and execute testing strategies and plans for areas of ownership, ensuring high-quality product delivery.
  4. Collaborate. Work closely with product managers, engineers, and other team members to identify and address potential bottlenecks in the testing process.
  5. Automation Framework. Customize and extend existing test automation frameworks to suit the product’s requirements.
  6. Test Coverage Improvement. Identify opportunities for improving product test coverage and testing effectiveness.
  7. Bug Tracking and Reporting. Track and report bugs, ensuring that they are documented, prioritized, and resolved.
  8. Agility. Handle multiple high-priority assignments and adapt to changing requirements in an agile environment.
  9. Continuous Integration. Experience with CI tools like Jenkins to integrate automated tests and streamline the release process.

Skills & Qualifications

  1. Education. BTech, MTech, or PhD in Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent).
  2. Experience. 3+ years of software development and testing experience with a focus on mobile and web applications.
  3. Test Automation. Expertise in tools such as Espresso, XCUITest, Appium, Selenium, Rest-Assured, and performance testing tools like Locust.
  4. Coding Skills. Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language (Java, Python, Swift).
  5. Mobile Testing. Experience testing mobile apps for both iOS and Android platforms, with hands-on test automation.
  6. Non-Functional Testing. Exposure to Performance or other non-functional testing.
  7. DevOps Exposure. Familiarity with DevOps tools like Docker, Jenkins, Mesos, and Marathon.
  8. Problem Solving & Debugging. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and the ability to track multiple test executions simultaneously.
  9. Version Control. Experience with Git and other version control systems.
  10. Communication Skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to collaborate and report effectively to stakeholders.
