Job Description

Join the Core Operating System (OS) team at Microsoft, responsible for powering Azure, Microsoft's Linux OS, Windows Client, Xbox, and the Windows Server ecosystem. As a Software Engineer II, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the OS platform underlying Azure services and virtual machines. This position offers an opportunity to design and implement solutions that enhance the OS platform, delivering value to our global customer base.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop automation solutions for incident analysis and mitigation, ensuring minimal manual intervention.
  • Analyze metrics to identify engineering opportunities and prioritize areas for improvement.
  • Investigate and resolve critical issues affecting the OS platform's performance and reliability.
  • Participate in a live site operations rotation with a 25% on-call duty, supporting Redmond daytime hours with occasional weekend requirements.
  • Embody Microsoft’s culture of inclusivity, collaboration, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of technical engineering experience with proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience in building and shipping production-grade software or services.
  • 1+ years of experience supporting production systems in a live site model.

Preferred

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field with 2+ years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree with 4+ years of experience.
  • Experience leading technical projects from inception to delivery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with distributed systems in a cloud environment is advantageous.
