Job Description

Microsoft Research (MSR) is a global leader in industrial research, employing over 1,000 computer scientists across several countries. We are currently seeking a Senior Researcher in Systems and Networking based in Vancouver, BC, who is passionate about exploring advanced AI-driven methods to innovate and accelerate system capabilities. This role offers the opportunity to lead ambitious research agendas and collaborate with diverse teams to pioneer novel applications in these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct cutting-edge research on AI-driven system methods to identify opportunities for innovation and acceleration.
  • Develop and implement new methodologies, techniques, and algorithms to enhance the performance, efficiency, and scalability of AI-driven systems.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including hardware and software engineers, data scientists, and product managers to drive the development and deployment of innovative AI-driven system solutions.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, research, and developments in AI, machine learning, and system architecture to maintain our systems' forefront position in innovation.
  • Evaluate the performance of AI-driven systems, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement and optimization.
  • Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences, and other relevant venues; present research results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide other researchers and engineers in their research and development efforts.
  • Engage with industry partners and academic institutions to collaborate on joint research projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

Required. Doctorate in computer science or a relevant field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred

  • Doctorate in a relevant field AND 2+ years of related research experience, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.
  • Participation in top conferences within the relevant research domain.
  • Background in systems and networking, with familiarity in machine learning systems, databases, and networking technologies.
  • Deep understanding of technical advancements such as Agent Systems, Vector Databases, and ML Systems.
  • A track record of published research in AI-driven system innovation is advantageous.

Compensation

  • Research Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $104,000 - CAD $193,200 per year.
