Job Description

The Video AI team at LinkedIn is an integral part of our strategy to advance video as a key medium for engagement on our platform. This dynamic and high-impact team is focused on building next-generation AI technologies that enhance how users interact with video content. The work you will do will directly influence the user experience by improving video understanding, search capabilities, content recommendation, and personalization.

As a Senior Manager in this space, you will lead a team of engineers and data scientists working at the forefront of AI-powered video analytics and content discovery. You will guide the development of AI models that enable real-time video analytics, intelligent video feed personalization, and video search to improve the overall video experience on LinkedIn.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead Technical Vision. Drive technical and design discussions to ensure that the machine learning solutions align with LinkedIn’s strategic objectives in the video space. This includes developing state-of-the-art AI models for video content understanding, personalization, search, and safety.
  2. Machine Learning Development. Oversee the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning projects, including the creation, training, testing, and deployment of models. Ensure models are optimized for scalability, performance, and user engagement.
  3. Collaboration & Influence. Work closely with application engineering, product management, and cross-functional teams to design, build, and deploy machine learning solutions that address business needs. Influence and guide stakeholders across the organization.
  4. Team Leadership. Manage a growing team of engineers and data scientists. Provide mentorship, foster career development, and create an environment that encourages experimentation and learning. Help recruit top-tier talent and build a high-performing team.
  5. Research & Innovation. Stay ahead of the curve in machine learning and AI, particularly in video technologies. Lead research efforts and experiments, using A/B testing and other methods to ensure the solutions we build deliver the best user experience.
  6. Operational Excellence. Implement and champion best engineering practices, such as version control, code quality, testing, and monitoring, to ensure that the team operates efficiently and delivers high-quality products.
  7. AI Model Evaluation. Continuously evaluate and improve machine learning models through feedback loops and experimentation to ensure optimal performance in real-world applications.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Educational Background. BA/BS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  2. Professional Experience. At least 7 years of related experience in software engineering or data science, with a focus on machine learning, data mining, or natural language processing.
  3. Leadership Experience. At least 3 years of experience managing technical teams, including mentoring and coaching engineers.
  4. Hands-on Machine Learning. Strong experience in building, deploying, and maintaining machine learning models, particularly in video-related applications such as video understanding, search, and recommendation systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Advanced Degree. MS or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  2. Experience in Video AI. Direct experience in building AI systems for video understanding, video personalization, or video search.
  3. Software Engineering Leadership. 5+ years in a leadership role, driving technical decisions, collaborating with product teams, and managing a cross-functional team.
  4. Deep Learning Expertise. Strong knowledge of deep learning techniques, especially in the context of computer vision and video analytics.
  5. Multimodal Machine Learning. Experience in building systems that leverage multiple types of data (e.g., text, video, and images) to create personalized and engaging user experiences.

Compensation and Benefits

The pay range for this role is $233,000 to $315,000 annually, with compensation packages adjusted for factors such as experience, skills, and location. Additional benefits include performance bonuses, stock options, comprehensive health benefits, wellness programs, and more.
