As the Senior Manager of Software Data Engineering, you will lead a high-performing team dedicated to developing robust self-service BI applications. Your role will involve overseeing the design, development, and delivery of BI solutions that empower stakeholders across Expedia Group with accurate and timely insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development. Mentor and guide a team of software data engineers, fostering their technical skills and career growth.
- Architect & Build BI Platforms. Oversee the design and implementation of user-friendly, scalable self-service BI platforms in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Data Infrastructure & Pipelines. Lead the development of automated data pipelines that support BI applications.
- Stakeholder Engagement. Collaborate with analysts, product managers, and program managers to align BI solutions with business needs.
- Data Governance & Security. Implement best practices for data governance and security to protect sensitive data.
- Performance Optimization. Monitor and improve the performance of BI platforms, resolving bottlenecks proactively.
- Technology Evaluation & Innovation. Stay current with BI tools and technologies, recommending enhancements to improve efficiency.
- Data Democratization. Create user-friendly tools and training resources to empower business users to generate their own reports.
- Project Management. Manage the lifecycle of BI projects, ensuring successful planning, execution, and deployment.
- Metrics & Monitoring. Establish success metrics for BI initiatives and implement monitoring systems to maintain infrastructure health.
Who You Are
- Proven experience in managing and growing engineering teams, including performance management and mentorship.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field; equivalent experience considered.
- 8+ years in software engineering, with 3+ years managing data engineering and BI teams.
- Expertise in data warehousing, data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and pipeline orchestration.
- Hands-on experience with BI platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and data transformation tools (e.g., dbt, Airflow).
- Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native data services (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift).
- Strong programming skills in Java, Kotlin, JavaScript, SQL, or Python.
- Deep understanding of data governance, security, and compliance practices.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and project management frameworks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
