Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Data Engineering to join our Data and Intelligence Service group. This role involves designing and building the long-term architecture for various components of our cost transparency ecosystem. You will provide technical leadership to a team focused on driving technology innovation and enabling smarter decision-making. You will work on a range of exciting projects with a team of technology professionals committed to building next-generation capabilities for global travel. This role requires leading a diverse group of engineers, promoting engineering best practices, and thriving in a dynamic, inclusive culture.

What You Will Do

  • Lead implementation teams and ensure the successful execution of new ideas or approaches.
  • Promote Cloud, DevOps, and FinOps best practices by showcasing cost-conscious technical solutions and reporting techniques.
  • Have a broad knowledge of the entire product, EG’s languages, frameworks, cloud services, and methodologies to handle various issues.
  • Engage with stakeholders across engineering teams and C-level executives to understand cost and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Implement and configure cost visibility dashboards to help teams forecast their costs accurately.
  • Evaluate historical cloud spend to identify patterns and opportunities for cost reduction or optimization.
  • Collaborate with product management peers to determine phase milestones and priorities.
  • Ensure proposals for improvements are considered and technical issues are resolved promptly.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, examine inefficiencies, and encourage engineers to improve.
  • Act as a bridge between technology and non-technology personnel, reporting team status and incorporating feedback.
  • Assess team goals, staffing needs, and talent resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Guide employees and managers in setting goals, providing feedback, and evaluating performance.

Who You Are

  • 8+ years of software development experience in an enterprise-level engineering environment with increasing technical leadership.
  • 5+ years of experience in big data engineering, with expertise in delivering Data and AI projects and AWS.
  • 2+ years of experience managing a competent data engineering team.
  • Experience with FinOps (cloud cost) is a significant advantage.
  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills, able to translate between technical and business functions.
  • Proven experience architecting, developing, and delivering complex, large-scale systems.
  • Hands-on experience with big data ecosystems such as Spark, Hive, Presto, Kafka, Airflow, NoSQL Datastore, REST APIs.
  • Proficient in SQL and experienced with BI platforms like Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or Data Studio.
  • Comfortable working across countries and time zones, managing multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passionate about delivering technology and experiences that benefit customers and developers.
  • Ability to mentor a team of mixed experience levels and support their career progression.
