Job Description

As a Senior Applied Scientist at Microsoft Ads, you will join a team that tackles some of the most complex challenges in online advertising, including developing models to rank ads, predict user interaction, and optimize advertiser outcomes. Your contributions will directly impact user experience and revenue generation by improving ad relevance, engagement, and the digital advertising ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of cutting-edge models that select and rank ads, predict user interaction, and optimize advertiser outcomes using Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Causal Inference, and other advanced techniques.
  • Design, build, and deploy models capable of operating at web scale, ensuring robustness, scalability, and high performance in real-world applications.
  • Oversee large-scale online and offline experiments to validate and optimize model performance, ensuring a direct impact on user and advertiser experiences.
  • Work closely with teams from research, engineering, data science, and product management to integrate AI solutions into the Microsoft Ads systems. Drive innovation through cross-team collaboration.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction to a team of researchers and engineers. Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research),
  • Master’s Degree in the same fields with 3+ years of experience in relevant areas,
  • Doctorate in the same fields with 1+ year(s) of relevant experience.
  • Experience with large-scale AI/ML models: Proficiency with frameworks such as PyTorch and a proven track record of building, deploying, and optimizing large-scale models, particularly in areas like NLP, Information Retrieval, or Computer Vision.
  • Experience in statistics, predictive analytics, or research related to machine learning and optimization at scale.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in the specified fields with 6+ years of experience for Master’s holders or 3+ years for Doctorate holders.
  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) or multi-billion parameter models, especially in efficient training and online inference.
  • Experience in deep learning algorithms/architectures to improve computational efficiency and memory management.
  • Experience in online advertising, search engines, or recommendation systems, which could be beneficial for applying AI in real-world business contexts.

Other Requirements

  • Security Screening. Candidates must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and every two years thereafter to meet security requirements for this role.
