The Checkout Experience Engineering team at Expedia Group is seeking a Principal User Experience Engineer. This team interacts with cross-functional and domain teams within the organization to deliver large, complex technology initiatives and experience optimizations. As a Principal User Experience Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the booking and checkout experience across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. Your role will involve guiding architecture discussions and influencing the direction of our web and backend development initiatives. Additionally, you will contribute to establishing a vibrant experience engineering community in Gurgaon, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.
What You'll Do
- Mentorship and Communication. Mentor team members across multiple workstreams and lead stakeholder communication across product owners, operations, partner tech teams, and business leaders.
- Feature Development. Drive full-stack feature development in a low-latency, high-throughput system that is core to our business.
- Architectural Ownership. Take architectural ownership for various critical components and systems, aligning the architecture for the Checkout Experience platform with the overall Expedia Group vision.
- Code Quality and Operations. Write stable, high-quality code to enhance existing service features with a strong focus on performance tuning, monitoring, and fault tolerance.
- Innovation. Prototype creative solutions quickly and take projects from prototype to production quality.
- Leadership and Standards. Demonstrate leadership by mentoring others, establishing standards in documentation and clean code, and setting a professional example for the team.
- Distributed Systems. Develop scalable and highly performant distributed systems, focusing on availability, monitoring, and resiliency.
- Collaboration: Build bridges between technical teams to enable valuable collaborations and foster a culture of continuous improvement in engineering excellence.
- Tool Evaluation. Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and efficient processes.
Who You Are
- Experience. 12+ years of experience developing production-quality code in a professional software engineering role, with a background in e-commerce being a plus.
- Education. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Technical Skills. Proven experience as a full-stack engineer with a focus on web frontend technologies, including expertise in JavaScript, React.js, Server Driven UI, HTML, CSS, and UI micro-frontends.
- Cloud and Databases. Experience with cloud-based technologies like AWS and distributed real-time processing systems, along with knowledge of Java, Spring, Node.js, Mongo, and other open-source non-relational databases.
- Quality Assurance. Track record of building test automation and reporting tools to ensure high quality.
- Agile Methodology. Experience with Agile methodology and a successful track record of delivering high-quality, distributed services with large transaction volumes.
- Performance Testing. Knowledge of performance testing, application tuning, and load testing.
- Communication Skills. Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Self-Motivated. A self-starter who is self-driven and takes pride in the development work of their team.
