Job Description

We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist to join our Industry Solutions Engineering (ISE) team. This is an exciting opportunity to solve high-impact problems using advanced AI, cloud-based solutions, and data science techniques. As a Principal Data Scientist, you will work closely with customers and partners to develop innovative, scalable, and high-impact solutions. Your role will involve mentoring teams, driving cutting-edge research, and helping customers transform their business operations through data-driven insights and machine learning models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee data acquisition processes, ensuring that data is properly formatted and described.
  • Coach engineers in data cleaning, structuring, and analysis best practices.
  • Drive discussions around data privacy, ethics, and best practices for data collection.
  • Evaluate models developed by the team, suggesting improvements and developing operational models that scale efficiently.
  • Develop innovative evaluation techniques and continuously improve modeling approaches.
  • Define and align business, customer, and solution strategy goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to explore new opportunities and deliver pragmatic, data-centric solutions for customers.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to drive strategic opportunities.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and promote data science best practices within the team and externally.
  • Work closely with software engineers, data scientists, and technical program managers to build and deploy solutions.
  • Partner with customers to ensure alignment between their needs and the data science solutions being developed.
  • Lead customer engagements, provide technical expertise, and ensure the delivery of impactful solutions.
  • Guide customers in understanding how data science and AI can address their toughest challenges and add value to their business.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 5+ years of experience in data science (e.g., managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques).
  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 7+ years of data science experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 10+ years of data science experience.
  • 3+ years of customer-facing, project delivery, professional services, and/or consulting experience.

Preferred Qualifications (PQs)

  • Doctorate in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 8+ years of experience in data science.
  • Master's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 10+ years of data science experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field and 12+ years of data science experience.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Additional Skills

  • Strong expertise in machine learning, statistical modeling, and AI techniques.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
  • Ability to think critically and provide innovative business solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, driving results and collaboration.
