Job Description

We are seeking a Machine Learning Engineer II to join our Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Security Research team. This role is focused on leveraging big data to tackle cybersecurity challenges and enhance malware protection systems. As part of a team of data scientists, engineers, and security researchers, you will contribute to building and optimizing data pipelines, developing automation protection solutions, and ensuring the quality and integrity of our security infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain data platforms that power cybersecurity protection in Microsoft’s products and services.
  • Build and optimize code to extract and aggregate raw data from upstream sources, ensuring accuracy, validity, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities to optimize data tools and improve end-to-end data, BI, and ML workflows.
  • Implement performance monitoring protocols across multiple data pipelines.
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement relevant tools, technologies, and strategies to enhance data management and machine learning processes.
  • Define and implement measures and dashboards to quantify the value of improvements.
  • Work on solutions to protect devices and users from cyber threats, contributing to the development of advanced threat detection and prevention mechanisms.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years of experience in business analytics, data science, software development, data modeling, or data engineering work
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year of relevant experience
  • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of relevant experience
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Expertise in big data platforms, cybersecurity, and machine learning workflows.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft’s specialized security screening requirements, including passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire and every two years thereafter.
