Job Description

As a Test Engineer (ETL Test Engineer) at Gartner, you will be responsible for designing, executing, and automating test cases based on functional requirements and technical specifications across our products. You will work closely with software development engineers to ensure the highest standards of quality, especially for data integration and ETL processes. This role requires a strong focus on data validation, troubleshooting, and defect management.

What You Will Do

  1. Test Case Creation & Execution. Build, execute, and automate test cases based on test plans and functional requirements.
  2. Functional Testing. Conduct functional testing of new application features, enhancements, and integration changes.
  3. ETL Process Validation. Develop and execute test cases to validate data integrity, ensuring the accuracy of ETL processes.
  4. Defect Tracking & Resolution. Identify, document, and track defects, collaborating with the development team for timely resolutions.
  5. Collaboration with Development Teams. Work with Software Development Engineers to understand the technical architecture and validate the implementation of features.
  6. Data Reconciliation. Perform data verification and reconciliation between source and target systems, ensuring data integrity.
  7. Reporting & Quality Advocacy. Interpret and report test results, advocate for quality in all development phases, and provide insights into the testing process.
  8. Documentation. Perform peer reviews of test scripts and documentation to ensure accuracy and maintainability.

What You Will Need

  1. 2+ years of QA experience in software testing, particularly for web and/or mobile applications.
  2. Strong knowledge of ETL testing. Ability to write complex queries for validating ETL processes and ensuring data consistency.
  3. Data Warehouse Testing. Experience in testing data pipelines, working with Azure Synapse, SQL Server, and ETL jobs.
  4. Data Validation Expertise. Hands-on experience in validating and reconciling data across source and target systems.
  5. Test Automation. Experience in developing and executing test cases based on technical and functional specifications, particularly for data-driven applications.
  6. Understanding of Data Warehousing Concepts. Deep understanding of data modeling, data integration, and data transformation.
  7. Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills. Strong attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and validate accuracy.
  8. Experience in Agile-SCRUM environments. Ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet project deadlines.

Good to Have

  • Exposure to DataOps and Databricks tools.
  • Experience in BI Report Testing using Business Objects or BI Publisher.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio.
