PhonePe is looking for an Engineering Manager - Frontend to lead and inspire a team of talented engineers. As a leader, you will be responsible for building and scaling complex frontend systems, mentoring a high-performing team, and driving engineering best practices to deliver world-class products.

You will facilitate engineering discussions, manage the execution of technical plans, and be responsible for the overall health of the systems your team owns. Your leadership will directly impact business outcomes, as you will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive the engineering roadmap and ensure alignment with product goals.

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering Leadership. Lead the frontend engineering team by driving technical decisions, setting goals, and ensuring high-quality delivery across multiple initiatives.
2. Ownership & Execution. Define and execute the engineering plans for the areas under your ownership, ensuring that your team's work directly impacts the business and product outcomes.
3. System Design & Architecture. Oversee the design and architecture of frontend subsystems, working with senior engineers to create scalable and performant solutions.
4. Best Practices. Drive engineering best practices, including code reviews, testing, continuous integration, and production hygiene, to ensure the team delivers maintainable and high-quality code.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration. Collaborate with product, business, and operations teams to align engineering work with broader business goals and execute efficiently.
6. Mentorship & Team Growth. Hire, mentor, and retain top engineering talent. Foster a culture of continuous learning and provide guidance to team members to help them grow professionally.
7. Stakeholder Management. Manage relationships with stakeholders including product managers, operations teams, and external vendors. Ensure alignment and timely delivery of engineering outputs.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• BTech, MTech, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
• 10+ years of software development experience, including 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams.
• Proven track record of designing, developing, and scaling large-scale frontend systems.
• Hands-on experience with modern frontend technologies (e.g., React, Angular, TypeScript, JavaScript, etc.).
• Strong understanding of frontend architecture and best practices for building performant and scalable applications.
• Experience with large distributed systems and high-traffic, consumer-facing applications.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A strong leadership mindset, with experience managing high-performing engineering teams and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture.
• Start-up or fast-paced environment experience is an added advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building front-end frameworks and reusable components at scale.
• Knowledge of cloud-based systems and microservices architecture.
• Expertise in optimizing for performance, scalability, and user experience on frontend applications.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in a scrum environment.
