We are seeking a talented and motivated Big Data Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and building high-performance, scalable data solutions on our Lumi platform, the company’s largest Big Data platform hosted on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This platform supports a variety of data processing needs, from batch to streaming, and powers our machine learning and AI capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Design, develop, test, troubleshoot, and optimize solutions to simplify access to Amex’s Big Data Platform.
- Collaborate with a team of skilled engineers to drive product development and adoption.
- Engage with product teams to understand the product roadmap and translate it into engineering artifacts.
- Work with cross-functional teams, including platform engineers and analytical users, to deliver innovative solutions.
- Adhere to DevOps principles and engineering excellence in product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop scalable and high-performance data solutions.
- Contribute to a fast-paced Agile team environment.
- Translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Utilize a variety of tools and technologies including HBase, Couchbase, Spark, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and more.
- Follow best practices in DevOps and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in software development with expertise in Java, Big Data, RDBMS, NoSQL DBs, Spark, and Python.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated test frameworks, and source code management tools (e.g., XLR, Jenkins, Git).
- Familiarity with public cloud technologies such as GCP or AWS and their managed offerings.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
- Experience in Agile/SAFe frameworks.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and team collaboration skills.
- Contributions to open-source projects are a plus.
