Job Description

As the Director of Data Science at MakeMyTrip, you'll play a pivotal role in guiding our AI, ML, and GenAI strategies to elevate our products and customer experiences. Your expertise in large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing (NLP) will help us unlock new opportunities across customer insights, personalization, and search optimization, setting new industry standards in travel and hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

Driving Business Value through LLM/NLP Expertise

Transform Customer Interactions

  • Develop advanced conversational AI chatbots to provide personalized customer support, reduce response times, and boost engagement.
  • Implement sentiment analysis tools to gauge customer feedback, track satisfaction, and identify actionable insights for enhancing customer experiences.

Optimize Business Operations

  • Utilize LLM-powered search optimization to streamline knowledge management, improve information retrieval, and boost employee productivity.
  • Design recommendation engines that leverage AI to personalize experiences, increase sales, and drive revenue growth.

Extract Insights from Unstructured Data

  • Build NLP applications for automatic classification and extraction of critical information from unstructured data, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Perform sentiment analysis and opinion mining to uncover trends and customer preferences, driving product improvement.
  • Leverage data science to identify hidden patterns within large datasets, influencing business strategy and fueling innovation.

Technical Infrastructure and Innovation

  • Establish robust MLOps practices to ensure reliable model training and deployment, with a focus on high performance.
  • Implement CI/CD processes for data models, ensuring consistency, scalability, and adaptability.
  • Enhance system quality using advanced models and best-in-class engineering technologies.
  • Deploy monitoring and alerting systems to maintain reliability and monitor performance of all data-driven solutions.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders across multiple business units to lead and guide projects, from ideation to development and deployment, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Requirements

  1. Education. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  2. Experience. 14+ years in applied data science, AI, or ML (10+ years with a Ph.D. in a quantitative field). Expertise in.
    1. AI/ML production modeling, pricing, discounting, recommendation systems, and personalization.
    2. Price elasticity modeling or causal uplift modeling with a focus on combinatorial optimization (a strong plus).
  3. Skills. Proven expertise in LLMs, NLP, and deep learning, with an aptitude for experimentation and AI/ML adoption across diverse use cases.
  4. Innovation Mindset. A strong desire to explore, experiment, and innovate within the AI/ML field, constantly seeking ways to enhance product value and customer experience.
